Berrigan Public School students celebrated the end of the school term with the World’s Greatest Shave and a crazy hair day to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
A team of four boys, led by team captain Justin Milne, has been fundraising all term leading up to the shave on Friday, September 27.
The students raised an amazing $4099.75 before a large crowd of school and community members gathered at the BPS hall to witness the shave-off.
The event was also live streamed on the school Facebook page so family and friends who were not close by could tune in.
Local hairdresser Jo Dowsett, of Bizzy Scissors in Berrigan, donated her time to take off the boys’ long locks.
Principal Dorothy Dore said she was proud of the students’ fundraising efforts.
‘‘It was a fantastic effort for a small school in a rural community currently suffering from the drought to come together and raise such a significant amount of money,’’ she said.
‘‘I looked at the incredible reach and engagement achieved and the response over the weekend.
‘‘I truly believe this was one of those ‘goosebump moments’ in education when all the good in individuals shines through - kindness, empathy and selflessness.
‘‘Well done to the team of shavers - Justin Milne, Jason Yeo, Lachie O’Dwyer and Ryan Thornton - for doing such a fabulous job. Berrigan Public School is very proud of you.’’
